Summit doesn't replace your email. We sit alongside it. You forward a copy of every tenant email to your unique Summit address, the AI reads it + replies, and both you and the tenant see the reply in their normal email thread.
Use the in-product wizard at /setup/forwarding for an interactive walkthrough with screenshots. The summary below covers the most common gotchas per provider.
Gmail (personal)
- Settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP → Add a forwarding address.
- Verify the address (Gmail sends a confirmation code to Summit; we auto-confirm).
- Settings → Filters and Blocked Addresses → Create a filter with criteria
to:your-tenant-inbox@example.com→ "Forward to" Summit address → also "Skip the inbox" if you want tenant email handled exclusively by the AI. - Gotcha: Gmail forwards a max of ~500 messages per day per forwarding address. Operators with >100 properties may hit it.
Google Workspace (your company's Gmail)
Admin Console → Apps → Google Workspace → Gmail → Routing → "Add another rule" for inbound. This applies to every user at once and bypasses the 500/day per-user limit. Talk to your Google Workspace admin — Summit support can help walk them through it.
Microsoft Outlook / Office 365
- Outlook web → Settings (gear icon) → View all Outlook settings → Mail → Forwarding.
- Enable forwarding, paste your Summit address, keep "Keep a copy" checked.
- Gotcha: Outlook's forwarding rule is account-wide, not per-folder. If you want to forward only tenant emails (and not personal mail), use a Rule under Mail → Rules instead, filtered by sender or subject.
iCloud
iCloud doesn't support per-rule forwarding — only blanket auto-forwarding for the whole account. If your tenant inbox is on iCloud, the realistic move is to add a forwarding rule on a different provider (Gmail / Outlook) and migrate the inbox there. Or use a relay address.
Yahoo
Yahoo's email forwarding requires Yahoo Mail Pro ($3.49/mo). Free Yahoo accounts can't forward. If cost matters, redirect to a Gmail address and forward from there.
Fastmail, Zoho, Proton
All three support per-rule forwarding via their web Settings → Filters / Rules / Sieve. Proton specifically requires you to turn off end-to-end encryption for the rule to work (E2EE prevents server-side forwarding). Decide whether the AI's tenant-side automation is worth that trade-off for your inbox.
Confirming it's working
After you set the rule, send yourself a test email TO your tenant inbox address. Wait 30 seconds. Check the dashboard's Activity view — you should see the inbound email registered and the agent's draft logged. If nothing shows up after 2 minutes, the forwarding isn't firing — recheck the rule criteria and the destination address.
